Self-medication is fashionable nowadays, and is actually encouraged in much of the English-speaking world. The trend is becoming more visible in France, where people are either buying drugs from chemists without a prescription, or reusing drugs from the family medicine cupboard that were prescribed earlier.
Although it can be argued that self-medication is a way of saving money, it it nonetheless risky and sometimes even dangerous. One gram of aspirin, for instance, is enough to kill a newborn baby.
The experts brought together in this book by the National Pedagogical Association for Therapeutic Education make a thorough analysis of the socio-economic and medical aspects of the trend.
