The prevention of cardiovascular disease has advanced to a point where researchers, epidemiologists and clinicians are able to put into practice the information accumulated over the years.
Although the risk factors are perfectly well known: age, sex, dyslipemia, hypertension, smoking, family cardiovascular history (genetic factors), obesity, diabetes... the treatment prescribed must be devised as part of a complete strategy because it has to take account of all these factors simultaneously.
After "50 Practical Situations", published in 1995, and "History and Development of Nutrition", published in 1997, in this third part of the series the authors describe all the drugs known as "normolipemiants" and their therapeutic uses. The result is a remarkable synthesis of research carried out into the prevention and regression of atherosclerosis.
This book will help doctors to acquire a better idea of which of their patients are at risk and to rationalize therapeutic decisions with a view to providing the most effective treatment.
Joint publication with the Education and Prevention Committee of ARCOL (French Coordination Committee for Research into Atherosclerosis and Cholesterol)
