Chronic renal diseases are typically incapacitating, characterised by slow, gradual progression and finally requiring costly and difficult to bear replacement therapy.
Disease progress and medical decisions are characterised by a general lack of certainty which places the patient, healthcare professional (particularly the doctor) and the healthcare policy of the society as a whole, at the very heart of the disease.
Taking into account the patient's point of view when treating the disease and using the patient's opinion as a key indicator in disease management or to assess therapies administered is therefore particularly appropriate.
Of the different indicators taking into account the patient's point of view, Patient Reported Outcomes (PROs), quality of life related to health and degree of satisfaction related to treatment are of particular importance.
