No atlas of paediatric electroencephalography has been published in French for more than 50 years. Since then, considerable progress has been made in recording techniques, the development of digital EEGs and simultaneous videos, and the introduction of polygraphic recordings. Meanwhile, the development of neuro-imaging has made it possible to correlate clinical, EEG and neuroradiological findings.
Progress in epileptology and syndrome classification which uses the EEG to describe syndromes calls for an excellent understanding of the technique for diagnosing and treating the condition in children.
The paediatric community, from neonatologists to neuro-paediatricians, will find in this atlas both typical and unusual examples of EEGs, featuring both physiological and pathological circumstances and concerning all age groups.
The book covers all physiological and pathological aspects from birth to adolescence, excluding premature newborns, on the basis of digital samples.
The first chapter is devoted to the various recording techniques, focusing on specific paediatric conditions. Then a normal EEG is described, from birth to adulthood, with examples of EEGs that are unusual but not pathological.
Pathological EEGs in newborns are the subject of the next chapter, including all the most frequently encountered neurological pathologies.
Next, EEGs are presented covering epilepsy in infants, through childhood to adolescence, along with acute and progressive neurological pathologies.
Finally, the subject of interactions between drugs and EEG is dealt with.
