At the dawn of the 21st century, the effective treatment of broncho-pulmonary cancer is still a challenge for oncologists working in the fields of medicine, surgery and radiotherapy:
- what tests should be carried out to determine the treatment to be given?
- what pre-surgical assessment should be made for patients who are functionally "on the edge"?
In everyday practice, the diagnosis of broncho-pulmonary cancer poses few problems. But the choice of what tests to include in a pre-treatment assessment is not easy, because it has both implications for the individual and for medico-economic issues, and can affect the evaluation of what treatment to prescribe.
This work, edited by Jeanne-Marie Bréchot, is the first title in a series devoted to pulmonary oncology. Its aim is to help doctors carry out pre-treatment assessments of broncho-pulmonary cancer patients, by means of a wealth of illustrations showing all the imaging techniques currently in use.
